A spiritual philosophy, whether true or false, can be used to inspire people to achieve great things. It is often the case that a historically significant movement will have a spiritual philosophy at its foundation. Many comparisons are currently being made between Adolf Hitler – a name synonymous with evil – and Russian president Vladimir Putin.(1) Whether or not the comparisons are justified, the Russian president may be similarly motivated by a spiritual philosophy, as was Hitler.
Most people are aware that the Nazi Party was racist, and many have a vague understanding that their philosophy dictated that Germans were of the superior “Aryan race,” but their beliefs are actually a corruption of theosophical doctrines.(2) In 1888, Russian-born Helena Petrovna Blavatsky’s The Secret Doctrine was published. In it, she claims that present humanity has descended from “root races.”
While Blavatsky made no claims as to the purity of one bloodline over another, her philosophy, as well as those of the Vril and Thule Societies, were adopted and modified to produce a philosophy that would be suitable for inspiring post-Weimar Germany. It is said that the SS officers were especially educated in this Nazi philosophy, with some even being sent to far-off lands to investigate their theories.(3)
In Russia, there is a mathematician by the name of Anatoly Fomenko, and his view of history is changing things for many an average Russian. Fomenko and his associate Gleb Nosovsky have been working on an alternative chronology of history since the Soviet Era, and their conclusions are remarkable. Without even considering his methods, Western scholars simply dismiss his work, but being one of the greatest mathematicians alive, Fomenko’s work should not be taken lightly. Even Gary Kasparov, the chess wizard, while rejecting many of Fomenko’s conclusions, says that, “Fomenko-Nosovsky correctly noted numerous discrepancies, inconsistencies in the official concept.”(4) Whether or not all of his work is completely accurate, it is certainly genius.
Fomenko claims that his work is backed up by statistical methods, and it is compelling when he produces graphs such as the following, in which a so-called phantom dynasty is depicted.

There are many, many points to his work – which has become an opus spanning four decades and some nine encyclopedic volumes – and it is all well-supported, but it is the conclusions that he comes to which are the cause for reaction. Among those conclusions are that the timeline of history has been artificially sent forward in time by about 1000 years, that Rome and Jerusalem are actually Moscow, and that Christ was born in Crimea.(5)
There have been noteworthy others in history who espoused alternative chronologies. In his work, The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms Amended, published posthumously, Sir Isaac Newton put forward his arguments for the position that history had been amended to make civilizations appear more ancient than they actually were.(6) The mainstream of modern historians reject such claims, and so they are not widely investigated. In Russia however, there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people who are aware of Fomenko’s chronology.
None of us knows for certain what is going on inside the mind of Putin, but it appears to me that Putin may be aware of the vision of the Grand Tartary that Fomenko has painted, as a world-spanning empire.
